Xabregas are true terroirists, as the focus goes beyond the concept of new world wines. Xabregas don't adhere to the stereotype of an Australian style, choosing instead to bring the unique expression of their single vineyard estate to the fore. Vines were expertly planted to follow a strong line of alluvial iron based gravels that concentrate on the hill sides of each vineyard, reminiscent of the Rhone Valley's terraced slopes.

Xabregas manage the finest vineyards in the greater Mount Barker area. They are contract grows for Houghton, Howard Park and Forest Hill, the choicest parcels of Merlot and Cabernet however are retained and earmarked for their own label. It is the belief at Xabregas that the alchemy of vinification takes a back seat to the quality of fruit coming from their three estate vineyards. The growers and winemaking team work side by side to preserve the expression of terroir, achieving a wine with excellent colour, soft, beautifully integrated tannins and maximum fruit intensity.

An assemblage of Shiraz and Rousanne from the finest vineyards south of Mt. Barker, harvested throughout the cooler temperatures of early morning at closely timed passes amongst the vines to create a Syrah of structure and complexity. Each site contributes a uniqueness and influence adding a different personality to the final wine. An elegant, medium weighted Syrah with abundant spice and graceful tannins, co fermentation with portions of the Roussanne grape adds another layer of texture and depth to this emerging Mt Barker style.

Xabregas are all about fastidious vineyard management and exacting vinification techniques. There are no compromises in the pursuit to create the defintive Mt Barker Sauvignon Blanc. Artisan focuses on balancing the distinctive flavour profile of Sauvignon Blanc with the complexity of new oak, whilst maintaining structure over a fine boned acidity. The wine is treated to a laborious lees stirring batonage while it ages, barrel ferments contribute to the vigorous complexity and perfect integration of oak, striking the ultimate balance between vibrant fruit and artisanal styling

The Xabregas Mount Barker vineyards enjoy a microclime that's somewhat similar to some of Europe's great winegrowing districts. Riesling is afforded a great deal of respect as a grape and generally the winemaking influence is minimal, to preserve the aromatics. Artisan Riesling is the antithesis. The aim is to interact with the precision of Riesling's acidity and flavour to add complexity and most importantly texture, without overpowering the delicate fruit.

Australia is blessed by the most fortuitous microclimes to assemble vital, well rounded and refreshing Sauvignon Blanc Semillon blends. The quality of Semillon is critical to the finished wine, providing both framework and zing. Wild Oats is bright, zesty and quenching, exhibiting crisp fruit flavours and herbal complexity on a well rounded yet lighter palate. An excellent poolside refresher and fine accompaniement to good seafood or cheese.

The wines of Wignall were met with resounding success from the first release, inaugural vintages saw amazing results, attracting conspicuous gold medal and trophy victories. Fruit driven and voluptuous to drink, Wignall have refined the style of their Albany Pinot Noir to be bliss for the most discerning palates. Vivacious aromatic fruit up front is solidly supported by velvetine tannins, dulcetly perfumed by the sweet, creamy French oak. An engaging nose of allsort and jube brings mouth filling flavours of fraise and framboise.

Wignalls were established 1982 after investigations into the local geography by founder Dr Bill Wignall. Results showed Albany's growing conditions were virtually identical to some of the great terroirs in France. Wignalls believe that terroir is the main reason for the remarkable quality of their wines. Attention to detail and a sophisticated trellis system to maximise sunlight and air circulation, greatly assist in achieving a superior quality of fruit. Fashioned to the statuesque styles of the great Burgundian Cru aged in the finest French oak.

Deep scarlet colour. Bouquet of raspberries and blackcurrant, followed by sweet and spicy vanillan with hints of cigarbox and pencil from the new French oak. The inaugural vintage at Picardy produced a single Pinot Noir. With each passing year Picardy evolves into an even more dramatic expression of Pemberton's answer to Burgundy. The mix of clones has infused greater interest in the wine, showing greater texture, structure and complexity. A light to medium bodied effort with the presence and taste of a top end Cote-d'Or, Picardy would have to be one of the finest Pinot Noir in the new world. Picardy is a traditional Burgundian style of Chardonnay with impressive aromatics and profound fruit character. The wine possesses all requisite floral and fine grassy sour sob/ oxalis grass characters expected in a young Burgundy. Picardy offers great texture and solid structure with high acid and extraordinarily low pH whilst retaining perfect balance. Crafted from grapes grown to four clones of vine imported from France, selected over a decade of trials out of a field of several hundred, grown to some of the most illustrious vineyards in Burgundy.

Moondah Brook can boast an unbroken succession of superb vintages ever since inaugural release, they can lay claim to consistently delivering one of Australia's most popular Verdelho wines. This unique grape was originally planted on the Moondah Brook property near Gin Gin in the 1960s, from much earlier cuttings along the Swan Valley where Verdelho thrives in the warm and sunny climes. Millbrook is a boutique winery situated in the historic town of Jarrahdale on the Perth Hills. The origins of the estate's Chestnut Farm winery date back to the nineteenth century when the original owner, Joseph Batt, planted an orchard and the first grapevines in 1860. An assemblage of the best parcels from the Lange vineyard in Frankland River, established in the late 1990s. Howard Park's Scotsdale property is located at the foothills of the ancient Porongurup range. At 200 to 380 metres above sea level, it is among the highest vineyard sites in all Western Australia.
